Pidurutalagala

Pidurutalagala is the highest mountain in Sri Lanka.  It's a beautiful place.  The mountain is also known by various names such as "Straw Laden Mountain" and "Pedro Mountain".  It is located in the Nuwara Eliya District of the Central Province.  To get here you have to travel through the city of Nuwara Eliya.  This is 8281 feet high.

It houses military, air and naval bases and is also home to the main transmission centers of the Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation and the Sri Lanka Telecom.  That is why this is a high security zone.  Admission to the show is completely free and is controlled by the Army.

It is full of various species of trees and animals.  Examples include ferns, water hyacinths, bean varieties, orchids, deer, and stalk squirrels.  It is also known as the home of many leopards.  There are also a number of beautiful waterfalls here.  These include Lover Sleep Falls, Ramboda Falls and Maturata Falls.  Belihuloya, a tributary of the Mahaweli River, begins at Pidurutalagala.  On a clear day without fog, you can see Haggala, Sri Pada, Kikiliyamana, Single Tree, Conical Hill, Horton Plains and Thotupalakanda from this hill.

So go and see this beautiful mountain range too.  I hope you like it there too.
